In 1993, the 51-day siege between American law enforcement agencies, and a religious sect known as the Branch Davidians, which took place near Waco, Texas, became one of the most controversial law enforcement operations in modern American History.
The Branch Davidians were a religious sect formed by a split from the Seventh Day Adventist Church in the 1950’s. In 1955 they set up the headquarters of their church on a 77-acre ranch, which they named Mt. Carmel Centre, just outside Waco, in Texas. The sect gradually grew into a community of around 100 people.
